Air Sail Review and Giveaway
Every once in a while, you come across an app in the App Store that makes you take a step back and say "Hmm...that's an interesting concept!" Today we look at one such unique title from Readdle called Air Sail. This is their first game offering for the iPhone, and it's not a bad attempt at all. We're also giving away five free downloads of Air Sail to some lucky readers, so read on to find out how you can win.
Playing with Air Sail sure brings back fond memories of me making paper boats and sailing them down by the creek after it rained :). Ahh, the good ol' days! Air Sail brings your very own makeshift sail boat right to your iPhone. The boat is made from packaging foam with a leaf and stick for a sail. To control your boat, you simply blow into the speakers of your iPhone while simultaneously tilting the phone in the direction you want to be propelled. We found it a bit difficult to get used to the controls at first, but once we did, sailing was a breeze! While the game could do with more sound effects and better graphics, you will still enjoy gameplay.
There are a total of 15 levels that gradually increase in difficulty as you advance. The objective of the game is to complete the course before the time runs out. If you fail, your foam boat cracks and you sink. As you complete levels, they are unlocked for future gameplay, and the game automatically saves your progress. The game also supports a secondary playing mode via multi-player over wi-fi.
Under the settings menu, you can opt to move the boat by blowing into the speakers or tapping on the screen. Blowing seems to be more advantageous as you can increase the speed of your boat by blowing harder. Tapping only allows for 1 speed.
Overall, we think Air Sail has the potential to be a really fun sailing game for the iPhone. However, the developers will need to spice it up a bit - you know, make it more engaging!
What we'd love to see:
- More realistic graphics (see Koi Pond).
- Give us different scenes, all with their own specific natural elements.. Eg. Let us race popular rivers of the world, like the Nile, the Seine, the Mississippi!
- A map of the river. It would be great to be able to see a birds-eye view of the path while you race.
- The timer concept is great, but nothing beats good old boat to boat racing. Throw a few boats in the mix to make racing more fun.
Today, we're also going to be giving away 5 redeemable promo codes for Air Sail! Have you ever played with a sailing boat? What was your experience like? Leave a comment to enter the giveaway. Winners will be chosen at random. Thanks to Readdle for sponsoring today's giveaway!

I played with paper sail boats that you would put in a gutter or creek. It was the closest I could get to the ocean living in AZ so it was fun!
I purchased Air Sail last week - you're right, it definitely could be better, but its still cool anyways!

I had a motor sail boat. All the boys would race during the summer!
