App Review: Trivial Pursuit for the iPhone
If you love knowing interesting facts and want a fun, yet challenging trivia game for your iPhone, then EA's Trivial Pursuit is simply a must have! Test your wits in the categories of Entertainment, History, Arts & Literature, Science & Nature, Sports & Leisure, and Geography. EA is no novice when it comes to gaming and they have really done a fantastic job of porting this classic over to the iPhone.
The Set-Up
The game's candy colored user interface is filled with smooth and lively animations and transitions that display beautifully on the iPhone. There is support for 6 languages: US English, UK English, French, Spanish, German and Italian. There are 3 main playing modes where you can create up to 4 different player profiles with some cool mascot icons :) To stroke your ego, you can also view statistics on accuracy, questions seen and additional miscellaneous details on your game play.
Exercise those brain muscles!
Classic Mode - This is your warm-up. Make your way around the board and try to collect all 6 wedges as quickly as you can. Then head back to the center to answer the final question.
Pursuit Mode - Think of this mode as the 100 meter dash. The goal is to get to the finish line as quickly as possible by fielding as few questions as you can. With each race you complete, you will unlock a higher level. However to move on, you must finish with either a Gold, Silver or Bronze medal. Each medal has a limit to the number of questions you can field before you complete the race.
Multiplayer - Time for the big showdown! If your friend has an iPhone, then you can play each other using wi-fi multiplayer mode. If they don't have an iPhone, no worries, just use Pass 'n Play mode -you can play both Classic and Pursuit modes using multiplayer.
Summary
The iPhone version of this old family classic is very appealing and entertaining and has a very high replay value. For that, we give EA's Trivial Pursuit a solid six star rating. (My only regret is that I cannot play this on the Apple TV) The game is available from the App Store for $4.99.
What we would love to see:
- The ability to review a question after it is asked.
