'Remote Wipe' feature accessible to all iPhone users

One of the features initially highlighted in the iPhone 2.0 firmware  was the ability for enterprise users to "remote wipe" their iPhone in case it is lost or stolen. This was a must-have security feature if the iPhone hoped to be a big player in the business world.

After WWDC 08, we were told by an Apple employee that the "remote wipe' feature would be accessible to all iPhone users. Today, more sources confirmed this and revealed that Apple is exploring multiple ways of accessing the feature including sending a text message to the iPhone or through your personal setting in your "Mobile Me" account.

However, they say that the exact details as to how it will be done have not yet been revealed but will be on Friday. The "remote wipe" feature is but one of the many ways in which Apple is tightening security on the upcoming iPhone 3G.
