Customizable 4 Finger Gestures for Snow Leopard?
When Steve Jobs introduced the new unibody MacBooks and MacBook Pros at Apple's media event last October, he announced the new glass trackpad with two four finger gestures for OS X Leopard. Well it seems Apple has even more four finger gestures planned, which may coincide with Snow Leopard's release this summer. While trying to hack my system files to reverse the two gestures currently available, I ran into an unused .nib file (screenshot above).
This may hint at a new four finger gesture tab under the trackpad settings that would allow you to customize the action effected. This is similar to the current Exposé and Spaces Preference tab that allows you to use hot corners to call different commands. The file can be found at /System/Library/PreferencePanes/Trackpad.prefPane/Contents/Resources/
English.lproj/FourFingerSwipeGesture.nib .

is there a way to actively use this new pane?
You need to have Interface Builder to open it (part of the Xcode package).
this would be PERFECT for a new app im developing, i thought it would be off limits for quite some time
I too found this file however my install of Leopard came from my late 2007 MBP. I do not have an MBP with a multi-touch trackpad...
No. NIB files are simply interface files. Unless Apple already wrote the code and it is hidden somewhere, this file cannot be used in any way other than a rumor.
a late 2007 MBP does have a multi-touch trackpad. maybe not four-finger gestures, but certainly three. original core duo MBPs are non-multi touch
Hi! I've a MB Pro Early 2008 and I don't have that file. Can someone post a rapidshare link where I can download it? I need it just to try if it works on MB Pro Early 2008 too. Thanx, guys! ;-)
RE late 2007 MBPs... mine definitely supports 2 finger gestures but not three. My understanding was that the trackpad in these models was different than the early and late 2008 models and could not support 3 or more gestures. True?

i found the file but i cannot open it.. can someone tell me how i can do it..??? says open with...? i dono wut to open it with!
