Burn Disk Images

Category:

Burning Disc Images in OS X is a very simple process. This guide will show you how to first create a Disk Image from a folder and then burn it to a CD or DVD.

Step One: Launch Disk Utility. It can be found be navigating to  Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility. In Disk Utility, select File>New>Disk Image From Folder.

Step Two: Navigate to the folder from which you want to make the image. Note: You can only select one folder.

Step Three: Select from the drop down menu DVD/CD master and Save.

The time it takes to create the Image will be dependent on the machine you are using and the size of the image you are creating. Wait until it is finished before you proceed. Interrupting this process will result in a corrupted disk image file.

Step Four: Upon completion, the disk image will pop up in the lower part of the sidebar in Disk Utility and will have the extension .cdr. Mount it to verify that it works!

Note:  If you wish to use .iso extension instead, simply navigate to where the image is located and change the extension to .iso.

Confirm the change in the Dialog Window that pops up.

Step Five: Finally, lets burn your image to either a CD or A DVD. Insert the storage media (CD or DVD) into the computer. In Disk Utility, select the image and choose Burn from the toolbar.

Upon completion, mount the CD/DVD and ensure the image was not corrupted.
