Well guys and gals, it's finally here! At 1:00 pm EST, Apple began pushing iPhone OS 3.0 from its servers in iTunes. iPhone users can upgrade to version 3.0 for free while iPod Touch users can purchase the upgrade for $9.95. Simply connect your device to iTunes and you can proceed with the upgrade. We'll have a full review of the OS posted later this week.
If you love knowing interesting facts and want a fun, yet challenging trivia game for your iPhone, then EA's Trivial Pursuit is simply a must have! Test your wits in the categories of Entertainment, History, Arts & Literature, Science & Nature, Sports & Leisure, and Geography. EA is no novice when it comes to gaming and they have really done a fantastic job of porting this classic over to the iPhone.
When we first got our hands on the iPWR battery pack, we were very impressed with its design and size. It packs the same amount of charge as the RS1800 from Richard Solo, but is only half the size. Unlike some other battery packs, there are no extra bells and whistles to the iPWR - the manufacturers were intent on making a good backup battery and it does a great job at doing just that!
The caption says it all: Thanks a billion. Over 1 billion downloads in just nine months. Only on the App Store.
Later this week, Apple will celebrate the download of the 1 billionth app from the App Store. Hate it or love it, no one can deny that the App Store is the most successful app distribution marketplace that we have seen to date. Launched in July 2008, the store will soon offer 40,000 apps for download - surpassing by far, the number of apps offered on any other mobile platform.
One of my favorite features of the upcoming iPhone 3.0 OS is the new default Springboard app from Apple called Voice Memos. The app is very simple yet elegantly designed and is everything I've wanted in a simple voice recorder. It is packed with many features and more integrated than any other voice recorder available for the iPhone.
It is no secret that the iPhone's App Store which debuted last summer has been extremely successful and profitable for both Apple and third party developers alike. The success stories keep pouring in! With over 25,000 apps currently available and more than 800M downloads, Apple has struck gold with their in built store model. Wanting to cash in on some of the success that Apple has been experiencing, rivaling companies are now debuting their own built in application marketplace for their devices.
My opinion piece, iPhone 3.0, Beating the PSP and DS at their Own Game had barely hit our iPhone World Blog last week when I spotted Let's Golf in the App Store. Any reservations about the quality of games that will populate the iPhone platform will immediately be removed when you begin playing with Gameloft's latest title. Let's Golf brings a superior, arcadesque console golfing experience to the iPhone that is enjoyable and addictive.
Over the last year, we have seen Apple slowly position the iPhone OS as a gaming platform. Today, the games section remains one of the largest and most popular categories in the App Store and has brought in a lot of profit for both third party developers and Apple. While the iPhone OS 2.0 gave us a great taste as to what the platform is capable of and also gave Apple an impressive debut into the gaming world, it is OS 3.0 that may deliver the coup de grâce to other handhelds like Nintendo's DS and Sony's PSP.
Today we take a look at Overnight from Bottle Rocket. We have been sitting on this gem of an app for some time now and have finally gotten a chance to write a comprehensive review of it. If you are a small business owner or just someone who sends or receives multiple shipments monthly, Overnight is an essential utility for your iPhone.
At the iPhone OS 3.0 event held earlier this week, Apple execs let it slip that tethering is a feature of the new OS. Apple has done their part, now, it was up to the carriers to enable it on their end. Well, you know, we just couldn't wait. Here is a detailed guide as to how to enable tethering on an Phone 3G via USB. Bluetooth in 3.0 has some connection issues that I haven't been able to get around as yet.
