Whether you’re a big pool fan, a professional, or just a casual player, Gameloft’s Midnight Pool is an offer you simply cannot resist. The game is highly interactive and customizable and Gameloft has simulated an environment that is very close to the real thing by combining intuitive controls with great graphics, meticulous physics and amazing camera angles. You will keep coming back for more!
Midnight Pool isn’t a fancy pool tournament played with judges and referees. It immerses you in the real world in bars across America where you put your money where your mouth is. You start the game with two characters, Alison the biologist from Tallahassee and John, the sheriff from Talladega and you can unlock up to 5 others if you beat them in story mode. For game play options, you have Arcade, Story and 2 Player Modes. You can play 8 Ball US, 8 Ball UK, 9 Ball or Challenges. When playing story mode, they throw in a challenge after every victory which if completed you win bonus cash based on the difficulty level.
Like in normal real-world pool games, you can change the angle and the spot on the cue ball you wish to hit. As a result, you can achieve top spins, back spins, left and right english, cuts, throws, swerves, jump and massé shots. Gameloft also provides excellent customization options. You can change the outfit on the characters, the color of the pool table, the bar location and even the stick that you use. You can choose the difficulty level, turn on aiming lines, power meter and display hints. The further you reach in story mode, the more options for customization you have. This obviously brings a lot of depth to the game play. The game supports English, French, Italian, Spanish and Japanese.
One feature that you will absolutely love is auto-save. If game play is interrupted by a text message or phone call, the game will pause and resume afterwards. Also, if you quit during the middle of a game, whenever you restart that playing mode, you will start from your last completed challenge or game.
Well what if you don’t know how to play or just aren’t sure of the rules. No problem, just check out the tutorials section. There, you can read up on the rules for each game and be taught how to execute various shots - from the very basic to complex jumps and Massé shots.
[Tip] Landscape mode is supported during gameplay!
What would we love to see in future updates? Well, just a few things:
- Throw in a few more characters :)
- Ability for 2 player game play over wi-fi
- Make the ‘hard’ difficulty level more challenging
- Ability to purchase sticks, moves or characters with the money you win
Midnight Pool is currently available in the App Store for a great price at $4.99. You will not be disappointed! Check out the gallery of screenshots. Enjoy!
