iPad and iPhone OS 4.0
As soon as the iPad was announced, many people began to voice complaints/disappointments about the lack of features, and just like the first iPhone release, the usual suspects began prophesying that it will be a failure. However, Apple may have deliberately held back on announcing some new features because they will ultimately be major selling points for iPhone OS 4.0 this summer.
Features such as multitasking and advanced voice-over integration may still be in the works! Yesterdays announcement was mostly to show off new applications for the iPad, the new powerful hardware and provide developers with the fundamentals to build and start porting their applications to the iPad. When the iPad ships however, Apple is expected to announce iPhone OS 4.0 and provide developers with an advanced beta preview.

I have a Kindle DX and really like the quality of text from the standard Kindle eBooks. I can lay in bed at night reading from it, and almost forget that it isn't a paper book. That's the good - the rest is not so good. You CAN download PDFs and other eBooks, but the files get corrupted and I had to have tech service reset mine to default startup. They said that is common. the file system for storing books is awful, and if you have more than a dozen or so books stored on it it's hard to quickly find what you want. Magazines and newspapers are so-so depending on which one you ordered; most don't have pictures. Surfing the internet is "experimental" and does not work well. Forget about checking/answering email. All of these problems should be fixable with firmware upgrade, so why hasn't Amazon done this yet? I so want to like the Kindle.
Now I have my eye set on the iPad, or even the enTourage eDGe™. The eDGE is heavier/thicker than the iPad, but has an interesting design for a startup company, and costs less than the iPad. Still, Apple does a great job of user testing and fixes until they get it just right. Even though my Kindle DX is only 6 months old, and expensive, it will soon be replaced by one of these two.

I can only hope that the iPad has upcoming features, but GPS and video iChat I can not see as an later add-on in June. Perhaps multitasking, but why would that be a problem to announce now. Everyone expects at least that to be in the next iPhone.
I got in on the first iPhone without many standard features, so I do not think I will jump onto the iPad without a feature set that justifies the price. For $199 I can get an iPhone with video, GPS, and more, but on a smaller scale. Is the $300 difference worth the extra screen size but with less hardware features?
iWork is very cool if I can print directly from the iPad, and the non contract 3G is great!
