Rivals Seek to Duplicate App Store's Success with Own Market Places.
It is no secret that the iPhone's App Store which debuted last summer has been extremely successful and profitable for both Apple and third party developers alike. The success stories keep pouring in! With over 25,000 apps currently available and more than 800M downloads, Apple has struck gold with their in built store model. Wanting to cash in on some of the success that Apple has been experiencing, rivaling companies are now debuting their own built in application marketplace for their devices.
Today, RIM, the maker of Blackberry debuted their own mobile marketplace known as App World. The store currently has approximately 1000 apps. You can read a review of what the experience has been like over on PCWorld. [Image via Engadget]
"BlackBerry App World lets you browse, purchase and download apps directly to your BlackBerry. To download the storefront, visit mobile.blackberry.com or www.blackberry.com/appworld from the BlackBerry Browser. A BlackBerry App World icon will appear on your homescreen when it is done downloading. Before you can begin purchasing, however, you must set up a PayPal account on your PC."
Microsoft is also preparing to launch Windows Marketplace for their mobile phones. Here's a promo video of what you can expect.
