Seton Hill University: An iPad for Everyone!

Submitted by Chris on March 30, 2010 - 1:09pm
Seton Hill

Seton Hill University has announced that starting this fall semester, all full-time students will be given a iPad (wi-fi of course). Expect to see a lot more universities following this trend in the next coming years.

Seton Hill University will give a new Apple iPad to every full-time student in fall 2010.

Students will be able to download their textbooks to their iPads from the iBook Store. In addition, iPads can be used as phones and for air and file sharing, as well as note-taking.

Apple Boycotts Fox News Advertising

Submitted by Chris on March 28, 2010 - 9:32pm

The Washington Post is reporting that Apple has abandoned Fox News advertising altogether because of the controversial Glenn Beck's program.

More than 200 companies have joined a boycott of Beck's program, making it difficult for Fox to sell ads. The time has instead been sold to smaller firms offering such products as Kaopectate, Carbonite, 1-800-PetMeds and Goldline International. A handful of advertisers, such as Apple, have abandoned Fox altogether.

Sneak Video Preview of Kobo Books' Upcoming iPad App

Submitted by Chris on March 26, 2010 - 1:10pm

Just days after Amazon teased us with the upcoming Kindle app for the iPad, Kobo Books has posted a sneak peek video of what they have been working on. Like Apple's iBooks app, Kobo sports a highly interactive bookshelf UI but with even more customization options. It looks really good.

With Barnes & Noble also expected to have their own e-book app available at launch, the iPad will have content available from all the major e-book stores. This will immediately make it more appealing than a stand-alone device from any of these companies...
I'm still a bit puzzled as to why Apple did not make iBooks a default app however.

Untethered Jailbreak for 3GS, iPod Touches, maybe iPad

Submitted by Chris on March 26, 2010 - 2:46am

Geohot has posted a teaser video of his latest jailbreak software that will successfully provide you with an untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 3GS and the 2nd and 3rd gen iPod Touches. Currently, owners of these devices can jailbreak using blackra1n, however, they need to keep their device connected via the USB cable during reboots. This was caused by a change in the boot rom in the iPhone 3GS and some nand flash technicalities with the iPod touch. Apparently these problems have now been circumvented. Most importantly however is that Geohot thinks the new jailbreak software may also work on the iPad. Hehe...a jailbroken iPad.

We shouldn't be surprised if most of the Network TV sites are doing this or will do it in the near future. Wake me up when Hulu.com becomes flash-free.
